Pre-Primary School

Pre-Primary School Starting school is a special time for children and parents alike. However, parents and learners feel nervous about the changes ahead. At Excelsior Academic College, we aim to make the transition as smooth as possible. Learners and staff alike look forward to welcoming new children into our special school community. We offer school visits and trial days for children interested in enrolling in the school. The staff strive to provide an inspiring, stimulating and exciting environment where everyone feels valued, safe and well cared for. We want children to have fun and enjoy success in all aspects of their education. We encourage parents to play an active part in the children’s education. The children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum for England. This provides the with a broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for a good future. The following areas are covered in the curriculum: • Literacy – English, Afrikaans and isiZulu, • Mathematics, • Science, • Arts. • Gross and fine motor skills, • Communication and language, • Physical development, • Personal, social and emotional development. We aim to create a safe, caring and stimulating environment in which everyone to develop to their full potential. Excelsior Academic College is a happy, friendly school with dedicated staff team of educators and non-educators. Clothing Full school uniform is compulsory. Your child will take part in a range of messy and creative play activities both inside and outside the classroom. Children need to bring a set of spare clothes, including underwear to school. This must be kept in their school bag.

Primary School

Primary School Our Primary learners are provided with a firm foundation of learning. Lessons are carefully structured to encourage curiosity, discovery, investigation, creative and imaginative responses. We encourage learners to become independent learners. Modern pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning, is used in the classroom. Our curriculum is based on the International Cambridge Primary Curriculum. The subjects that are taken are from Grade 1 - 7: • English • Afrikaans • isiZulu • Mathematics • Science • Life Skills • Computers • Geography • History • Art • Physical Education • Economic Management Sciences (Grade 7) We strive to create a safe, caring and supportive environment for children to learn. Our learners learn in an environment of mutual respect and cooperation. Our staff are committed to the learners ensuring that they are happy. The learners are assessed on a regular basis on how each child is progressing in their social as well as academic development.

High School

The high school is a friendly, family atmosphere. Our pupils are confident, compassionate, polite and full of humour and spirit. Our teachers know and value each student individually. We promote academic rigour and the richness of education teaches of children how to think. Pupils are well grounded in the knowledge, understanding and skills of all subjects, which helps them to develop a positive attitude to learning. We are an academic school with small classes. We are caring and respectful. We aim to make a real difference in your child’s life with good humour, encouragement and appreciation of what is best for your child. Our teachers are passionate about imparting knowledge and supporting our pupils to become the best that they can be. Our core values are curiosity, innovation, leadership and resilience. We offer a well-rounded education. Our students develop skills from stimulating and inspiring learning experiences. Every student is unique and has unique needs. Our pupils’ personal development is of paramount importance. All pupils are treated as individuals and given personal support and guidance. We pride ourselves in getting to know every pupil well and working with them to understand how we can best support them through these important years of IGCSE and AS/A levels. English, Afrikaans or isiZulu and Mathematics forms the core for all pupils. Then there is a choice or other subjects. We deliver courses to meet the requirements of the Cambridge IGCSE and AS/ A level curriculum. The qualification is a prestigious qualification recognised by universities across UK, SA EU, US and the rest of the world. Pupils leaving our school having gained their academic potential, gain good self-esteem, social skills and strong morals. Sixth form Our students learn to work more independently and prepare for life after school. We have small classes and close support from all their teachers. We offer a wide range of subjects and are taught by experienced and dedicated staff. Co-curricular Activities To ensure a well-rounded education, enrichment programmes are offered, from art club, nature club, STEM, drama, swimming, etc. Our international links allow for students to also participate in the Duke of Edinburgh. Our local community is important to us and we encourage our pupils in outreach programmes and support local children homes.

Special Needs

Distance education for high school, grade 8 -12. The advantage of distance of distance education is that you take control of your child’s education. You can emphasize on what you fell is important for their academic promotion and success in life. Equipping you with all the resources needed to educate your child at home and working at their own pace in their comfort of their home.

Post Matric/ Sixth Form

As you transition from school to university or college you will develop a greater independence. You will learn to become independent and enjoy the responsibility of managing your own time. Cambridge AS and A Levels that are internationally recognised providing access to universities across South Africa and the world.
